Modem Support
You'll find all you need to know about the modem on this page. A downloadable driver for all supported versions of Windows can also be found at the bottom of this page.
Modem FAQs
Q. How do I de-install the modem ?
A. On the CD is a file named LTRemove.exe, run this file by double-clicking its icon and it will remove all traces of the modem.
Q. How do I set the modem for Speakerphone ?
A. The speakerphone mode supported by this modem requires the use of Microsoft Netmeeting (included in Windows operating systems) or similar software. With a mic and speakers (or a headset) connected to your PC’s sound card, it allows you to hold conversations over the internet with similarly equipped PC users around the world, for the cost of a local call.
Q. Windows didn’t detect my modem , can I install it manually ?
A. No, if Windows does not automatically detect the modem it’s not possible to do it manually (even from ‘Add New Hardware’). The suggested course of action is to de-install the modem (see above) and re-install it in a different PCI slot in the PC.
Q. Is this a software modem ?
A. No, the correct description is a ‘controllerless modem’, this means that it performs all the modulation and demodulation without taking resource from your PC processor. The PC processor handles only error correction, data compression and dialing control. The term Win-modem simply means that its driver runs under Microsoft Windows.
Q. My ISP is not V.92, how do I make the modem use V.90 ?
A. Just use the modem as-is, it will negotiate with your ISP’s modem to find the best service that both modems can support.
Q, How do I update the modem driver ?
A. In Modem Properties, there will be an Update Driver button, click on it and direct the wizard to the CD or to the downloaded files containing the driver and follow the prompts.
Q. I have Windows-XP and the modem always fails to connect, showing a ‘No Dialtone’ message ?
A . There is a known problem with the driver which a part of Windows-XP. You should update the driver using the CD supplied with the modem, following the instructions here.
Q. Who are Lucent and Agere ?
A . Lucent is a global communications company, well known for the core technology used in telephone networks. With their telephony knowledge they developed a range of modem integrated circuits (chips). In 2000 the modem-chip making division was renamed Agere – you may see the Agere logo on your modem’s main chip.
Q. My modem only has a single socket on its rear panel, what do I lose ?
A . For use in the UK, there is no difference between one or two sockets on the rear panel. Whichever modem you have, the ‘line’ connection must be made to the LINE socket.

The above driver does not have a Microsoft ‘Digital Signature’, but is a fully functional driver which has been tested extensively by Modular Technology Ltd.
If you would prefer to have a driver which has been certified by Microsoft in its ‘Windows Hardware Quality Labs’ programme, then choose from the drivers below (note that the ‘certified’ drivers will be derived from an earlier driver ‘code’ version, and do not include support for any voice functions)
